Positive Reinforcement Dog Training

I found an article that showcases how dog training has changed. It used to be that people just wanted to teach their dogs to sit, lay down, and stay. With positive reinforcement the possibilities are almost endless in what you could teach a dog. It not so much that dogs are getting smarter but the humans who are learning to teach their dogs.

Dog trainers were in times past  thought of as just training the dog to do what you want. I think with the popularity of positive reinforcement it has become more about training the humans to communicate with their dog. When you can communicate your dog will understand what you want without the anger or drama that would be involved in punishment training.

  1. I remember years ago if there was a dog trainer on television, I would turn the channel because I didn't want to see the dog get yelled at. I love that positive reinforcement is so popular now. Dogs should always be treated with love and respect, even if they do something wrong. Do you ever see Victoria Stilwell in action? She's great.
