Bailey's First Trip To The Farm

Now that Bailey is no longer contagious, we decided it was safe to take her for a romp on the farm to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. I wasn't sure what she would think of the surroundings because I don't know exactly what she was exposed to as a puppy with her mother. She enjoyed the new found freedom to move about. She showed no fears of the dirtbike zooming past her.

We usually cross a creek several times as it meanders through the farm and there were a couple times she was unsure about the water and began to whine. I knew there were no dangers for her so I just ignored the behavior and allowed her to figure the situation out. I was suprised that she showed no interest in the cows at all, but she may decide to try to chase them when she matures some more.

We practiced long distance recalls and she did them all very willingly even being 20 to 30 feet away. After I discovered to praise a dog for coming back to you and not trying to punish them for running away, I am always amazed how willing they are to come to you every time. I wish I had known so much more about training when we adopted Tanner as a puppy.

  1. Sounds like Bailey's well on her way to becoming a very good dog!
